September Mentor Text Book Club | THE LAST CUENTISTA

Purchase your ticket

Description

Announcing our September Mentor Text Book Club!

Every month we will dig into a middle grade or young adult novel together, focusing on a specific craft aspect.

September’s book is THE LAST CUENTISTA by Donna Barba Higuera ✨

Author Nancy Tandon and Book Coach Christy Yaros will lead our discussions.

Register here.

Learning Objectives/Outcomes

As we're reading, let's pay attention to:

  • worldbuilding

  • blending genres

  • backstory/flashbacks

  • structure

The expectation is that you will have read the book before the meeting (or at least not be upset that you'll be spoiled 😉).

There is no expectation that you will enjoy the mentor text books, but come anyway! Even if you didn't love the book overall, discussing the craft elements can help you articulate what didn't work for you as a reader. Analyzing those aspects can strengthen your own writing by helping you recognize what to avoid or improve upon.

Who is this for?

Anyone writing a novel for young readers, including chapter books, middle grade, and young adult who wants to learn how to use published novels to improve their craft.

Format

An online presentation on Zoom with hands-on exercises and a Q&A at the end.

Price

$25

This event is FREE for members of the Crafting KidLit Coaching Program.

If you’re not a member:

Includes access to the live workshop and the recording for 30 days.
